    Service Dog opening a door Our Service Dogs may be trained to retrieve things that drop, portable telephones, or items from shelves and other hard-to-reach places; open refrigerator and other doors; push elevator buttons; pull items such as an empty wheelchair to the owner or socks off of a disabled person's feet, turn light switches on and off; carry items in their mouths or backpacks; pull wheelchairs up ramps or short distances; go get help should their partner need human assistance.

    The only type of dog we are not qualified to train are seeing-eye/guide dogs.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: All Service Dogs trained by the SPCA staff will receive free AVID Microchip ID & Chip Registration with PetTrac, a free "Service Dog" vest or backpack, vehicle decal, ID Card & Tags, and a Certification of Public Access from the SPCA.

    These dogs are receiving Basic Obedience along with Public Access Skills training
    and will be ready to be matched with a disabled person for Advanced Tasks training
    in whatever areas the person may need their dog to do.

    Foster Homes are needed for Service Dogs in Training immediately
    to give them a temporary home and continue with their training until they are matched with a disabled person who needs them.
    Please call the shelter if you would be interested in fostering a dog.
