Who can get a Service Dog from the SPCA?
Anyone who can provide a letter from a Medical Doctor that states that the person's disability, (physical or psychological) would benefit from a service dog. Because the person and our trainer must work together for an undetermined length of time after a dog is placed with them, we primarily supply dogs to disabled people here in our area, (within about 50 miles), however we will consider going further or it may be possible for you to stay here at the facility while you and your dog learn to work together.
Is that all it takes? No. There are many things that go into getting a Service Dog, including several interviews with you, your family members, caretakers, and anyone else who may be forced to accept this dog into their lives - like-it-or-not. There are home inspections and other things to consider both for you and for us before just placing a dog in your home and saying "There ya go". If you or someone you know may benefit from the services a dog can provide, contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you. We are very serious about where our dogs go though, so the hard sell, just to get you to buy a dog is not going to happen here.
